轧辊产生弹性压扁时可能轧制的板厚。在一定轧机上轧制一定的产品时，随着板带的逐渐变薄，压下越来越困难。当板带薄至某一限度后，不管如何旋紧压下螺丝或加大液压压下的压力，不管反复轧制多少道，由于轧辊产生弹性压扁而不可能再使产品变薄。这一极限厚度称为可轧厚度。冷轧辊在工作过程中要承受很大的轧制应力，加上轧件的焊缝、夹杂、边裂等问题，容易导致瞬间高温，使工作辊受到强烈热冲击，造成裂纹、粘辊、剥落甚至报废。

轧辊具有粘着力，优异的抗压强度、耐磨性和抗腐蚀性等归纳功用，选用高分子复合材料在传动部位磨损规范相对较小的状况下可以现场免拆开修正。

当轧制其它型材时，可以用水平机架更换机架。水平机架的轧辊有很深的孔型，而机架没有。
较大直径的水平轧辊确定型钢的的形状，而较小直径的一对立辊用于轧制边部。当坯料穿过传统机架和机架精轧轧辊时，可以获得很好的表面光洁度和尺寸公差。
