Summary
Gamma-oryzanol is a mixture of ferulate esters of a number of triterpene alcohols obtained from the seed coat of rice Oryza Sativa Linne (Graminea). It is used extensively in recent years as a pharmaceutical product due to its excellent pharmacological effects such as lowering of serum cholesterol and improvement of autonomic dystonia and discomforts of he***y head and malaise deriving from climacteric disorder. It is also added to basic co***etics such as nourishing cream and milky lotion as it also exhibits blood flow promotion and antioxidant effects against lipids.
The content of cycloartenyl ferulate is specified in the Japanese Standa*** of Co***etic Ingredients because it is an active component of gamma-oryzanol. This product can be used for quantitative determination not only in the co***etics containing gamma-oryzanol but also in gamma-oryzanol preparati***.
This is a purified product of gamma-oryzanol and is used as a reference standard in the measurement of the effective content of gamma-oryzanol in pharmaceutical products.
