The topology of an Ethernet IP network is different than that of TP/FT-10: For 10/100Base-T there are exclusively point-to-point connections at physical layer. If more than 2 devices shall communicate with each other, switches are recommended. Hubs, as multi port repeaters, have technical disadvantages compared to switches:
- Hubs ... transmit and und regenerate data packets
- Switches ... connecting 10MBit/s- resp.100MBit/s segments / channeling of network traffic / reducing of bus load
