***早的拳击规则是1729至1750年称霸英国拳坛的杰克·布荣顿于一七四三年制定的。在这个规则中明确规定了参加拳击比赛的人必须戴拳击手套;比赛的每个回合打满三分钟,回合之间休息一分钟;比赛中禁止发生搂抱和摔跤现象,否则被判为犯规;一方被击倒后开始数秒,如果十秒钟被击倒的人不能站起来,就判定对方胜利等内容。并强调拳击中的技巧;这个规则基本上形成了后来拳击比赛的竞赛框架,为促进拳击的发展指明了方向。昆士伯利规则形成之后,大约经过二十年的反复实践和运用,才逐渐被人们肯定。上述规则的不断修订和完善,特别是昆士伯规则的***终确定为促进现代拳击比赛奠定了基础。
