罗茨鼓风机是一种传统的容积式鼓风机，与螺杆鼓风机一样，它结构简单可靠，也具有强制送风的特点，可自适应污水处理应用中的压力变化，具有25～100%区间的变频调节范围。在低压力段（0.5Bar以下），效率不错，而且价格便宜，具有良好的性价比。但是罗茨鼓风机没有内压缩，本身不产生压力，需要完全依靠背压，因此总体效率不佳，气流脉动较大，噪音在3种污水处理鼓风机中也是***大的，工况压力越高，这些缺点就越明显。离心鼓风机又可分为多种，如多级离心鼓风机、单级高速离心鼓风机以及磁悬浮、空气悬浮离心鼓风机。这里螺杆鼓风机厂家仅以磁悬浮式与空气悬浮式离心鼓风机为例。这两种离心式鼓风机都利用离心原理，结构和控制都较为复杂，采用磁悬浮与空气悬浮轴承，不需要润滑油无摩擦，因此在3种污水处理鼓风机中，它们效率高、噪音小，风量大。
磁悬浮与空气悬浮式离心鼓风机优点突出，但其核心悬浮轴承技术复杂，因此对工况要求较高，变频范围较窄（40～100%范围），且不适应频繁启停，购置价格及一旦维修，成本很高。
应用领域：
1、工况稳定，且实际运行工况与设计工况接近。
2、工况环境条件处理较好。
3、长期连续运行，无频繁启停。
相反的，如果工况条件较差，且风量风压的工况因素变化大、需要频繁启停等场合就不适合用离心式鼓风机了。另外虽然磁悬浮及空气悬浮离心式鼓风机具有上面所说的优势，但在小流量的污水处理领域，效率优势不大，对比价格及维护费用上的差距，并不具有性价比。同时磁悬浮与空气悬浮离心鼓风机都是单级离心风机，工作压力一般不超过1Bar，如果工况压力大于1Bar，一般就需要多级离心风机。
