双螺杆泵是由主从动轴上相互啮合的螺旋套和泵体或衬套间形成一个容积恒定的密封腔室，介质随螺杆轴的转动分别被送到泵体中间，两者汇合在一起，***终送达泵的出口，从而实现泵输送的目的。
双螺杆泵有密封式和不密封式两种类型，按介质从一端还是 从两端进入啮合空间，双螺杆又被分为双吸式和单吸式两种结构。
双螺杆泵是外啮合的螺杆泵，它利用相互啮合，互不接触的两根螺杆来抽送液体。

主要特点：
该型泵采用双吸式结构，螺杆两端处于同一压力腔中，轴向力可以自行平衡。两端轴承采用外装式，单独采用润滑油(脂)润滑，因而不受输送介质的影响。两螺杆间用一对同步齿轮驱动，螺杆齿面间并不接触，而留有一微小间隙，介质中的杂质并不能对螺杆齿面产生直接的磨损(除冲刷外)。 除一些小排量泵外(2W.W4.0以下)，一般在泵体上都带有内流式安全阀，当排放压力超过额定值时，有一定的保护作用。 泵体上的进出口方向有两种，一为水平进，水平出;二为水平进，垂直向上出;用户可根据自己需要选择。
