MG 289W
Metal cored
wire for build-up or repair of
cast iron
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:
This unique metal cored MIG wire produces dense, strong, crack-resistant welds on all types of weldable cast
ir***. Especially good for contaminated, old, oil soaked, dirty base metal. Also recommended for joining cast
iron to steel.
APPLICATI***:
Use on sewer pipe, machine bases, tran***ission or gear housings, sprockets, repair of or build-up on gears,
and any repair of cast iron to steel.
TECHNICAL DATA:
Typical Tensile Strength Up to 75,000 psi (517 MPa)
Hardness 187 Brinell
Polarity DC reverse (electrode +)
Shielding Gas 98% Argon, 2% Oxygen
Diameter Amperage Volts Wire Stick Out
0.035” (0.9mm) 150-180 26-28 1/2”
0.045” (1.2mm) 220-250 27-29 1/2”
PROCEDURE:
Remove foreign materials. Preheat 400°-600°F. Apply weld as stringer beads with a slight side to side motion.
Fill all craters and allow to cool slowly. For he***y secti*** and large deposits, peening passes while hot is
advisable to combat weld stress accumulation.
