TheEastIndiacompaniesstartedtradinginthe17thcenturyandbythebeginningofthe18thcenturyEuropewasfascinatedbyallthingsfromtheorient.EuropeanartistsstartedtogototheOrientandpaintwatercoloursandpublishbooksofhand-colouredaquatints,whichenabledpeopletoseeforthefirsttimetheman-madestructuresaswellasthefloraandfaunaandlandscapesoftheEast.Around1700thefirstwallpaperswereboughtbackfromChinabytheEastIndiaCompanyandsoonbecameknownas\'India\'papers.Betweenthenandtheearly19thcenturymostofthecrownedheadsofEuropehadcreatedtheirownChineseinteriorstohousethecollectionsofFarEasternartefactsbroughtbackbytheEastIndiaCompanyandothertradersandadventurers.Drottningholm,TheBrightonPavilion,SansSouci,SchlossW?rlitz,CharlottenburgandOranienbaumaresomeofthepalaceswhereyoucanstillseethesewonderfulpapers.
