OK 63.85 is a basic coated niobium-stabilised 18Cr12Ni2.8Mo electrode for welding steels of similar composition. It has very good resistance against intergranular corrosion. The rather high ferrite content in combination with the basic coating provides a good hot cracking resistance. It has the best hot cracking resistance of the E318 type electrodes. Ferrite may transform to brittle phases at elevated temperatures. To ***oid excessive embrittlement of the welds the maximum working temperature is limited to 400°C.
